What is the AppMD Score?
A comprehensive 100-point metric predicting your fit for a specific medical school. Although not limited to, it weights factors such as GPA and MCAT competitiveness, school ranking, in-state and out-of-state class composition, extracurricular activities, Step pass rates, residency matching data, and mapped onto mission fit.
Our Philosophy
Old wisdom used to prevail that a person apply to 5 Reach, 5 Target, and 5 Safe or Baseline schools. The categories of Reach/Target/Safe or Baseline are based on where a student lies relative to each school's Median GPA or MCAT. In addition, the number of applications is informed by the fact that for a matriculated student who has AT LEAST 1 acceptance has applied to an average of 16-17 medical schools. We recommend that you double this number and apply to a minimum of 30 in order to maximize dealer's choice with the goal of having at least 2 school acceptances to choose from.
In addition, we do not believe in any school being "Safe" (or Baseline). It presumes some sort of guarantee in an environment where there are no guarantees. Our experience informs us that as long as an applicant is within the accepted range (+/- 1-2 points below the 10th percentile, particularly for URM/Disadvantaged, Veteran, or other X-Factor), schools generally should be treated as Target. As such, we only list schools as either Reach or Target.
